Where the measurement ends

Length ends at the tip of the glans in a straight line from the base - not at the meatus, and not at the far point of a curve.

A length measurement needs two landmarks, a start and an end. The start is the pubic bone. The end is a point that gets confused more often than it should, given how simple its definition actually is.

The tip, defined

Length ends at the most distal point of the glans - the furthest point the tip reaches - measured along the same line the reading has been running on from the base. Not the furthest point in any direction, but the furthest point along that specific dorsal line, the top-running path this site treats as standard for the reasons argued elsewhere. On most shafts this is a straightforward point to identify: the glans comes to a rounded end and the ruler simply runs to it.

Why not the meatus

The urethral opening, the meatus, is an obvious-looking landmark and the wrong one. Its position on the glans varies between men - it does not sit at a fixed, centred point the way the tip itself does - so using it as the endpoint introduces a source of disagreement between two readings that has nothing to do with actual length. The tip of the glans is a geometric extreme, the furthest point along the line; the meatus is an anatomical feature that happens to sit somewhere on the glans, not necessarily at that extreme. Studies use the former because it is the one that is defined the same way on every subject.

What a pronounced corona or a curve does

The corona, the ridge at the base of the glans, does not change where the tip is - it is closer to the base landmark than to the end one, and the reading runs past it to the actual tip regardless of how pronounced it is. Where things get less obvious is on a curved shaft: the dorsal line's own path shifts slightly as the shaft curves, and the point where that line meets the glans is not always the single most protruding point of the glans overall, since curvature can present the glans at a slight angle to the ruler. The rule stays the same even so - the endpoint is where the dorsal line, held straight from the bone, reaches the glans, not wherever on the glans looks furthest from some other angle. Resting the ruler at the tip

Once the endpoint is identified, the ruler should rest against it without being pressed into the glans - pressing compresses tissue at the tip in a smaller version of the same problem bone-pressing solves at the base, and it shortens the reading by an inconsistent amount session to session. How exactly to make that contact, and the common ways people get it wrong, has its own detailed answer; the point for this piece is simply that the endpoint is a point to rest against, not a point to push into.

Part of a larger protocol

This endpoint is the second of the two landmarks that make the full bone-pressed length protocol reproducible - the bone at one end, correctly located as its own first step, and the tip at the other. Get either one wrong and the number stops being comparable to anyone else's, however carefully the rest of the technique is done.

A distance, not a verdict

The tip, defined this way, is the end of a physical distance measured in centimetres, with a real error bar around careful technique. It is not where a judgement forms, and nothing about identifying it correctly has any bearing on how a photograph would be scored - an AI-judged rating on a site like Rate Cock or a person's read on Rate Penis is assessing an image as a whole, not locating a single point along a measuring line.
